JANUARY WINE CLUB 2017

Scotto Family Vineyards 2013

78% Cabernet, 18% Barbera,  4% Petite Verdot

Lodi, CA

The first impression is juicy blackberry with a little earth, but intriguing spice notes, nutmeg wrapped in milk chocolate woven with whispers of smoke, creep in to set this wine apart.  On the palate, there is plenty of flavor though not excessively ripe. It is medium-bodied, svelte, graceful, and lively, with very refreshing acidity, especially on the finish which shows lingering after-flavors of tart cranberry and slightly charred wood, supported by tannins that have some grain but don’t grip. More spice-driven than fruity, more elegant than bold, great clarity and complexity.

Cabirol Tinto 2012

50% Garnacha and 50% Tempranillo

Montsant, Spain

Produced from a blend, this juicy red is all red cherries and red plums. Supple, fresh, and very drinkable, this is further proof of a very successful vintage on Spain's Mediterranean coast, a year that resulted in delicious, terroir driven, fun to drink wines.

Villa Degli Olmi Prosecco Spumante Doc Extra Dry

100% Glera (prosecco)

Veneto, Italy

A fresh mix of white peach, acacia blossom and minerals all work together nicely in this clean, refreshing sparkler. Pale straw color, lovely complex bouquet of cantaloupe melon with floral notes. On palate very much typical of the Glera grape variety with hint of pears, and classical apple cider and almonds; leaving a dry slightly yeasty persistent fresh aftertaste on the palate.
